Jane Falkingham，人口学与社会政策领域教授。现任英国南安普顿大学副校长，2013-2021年曾任南安普顿大学社会科学学院院长。现任英国经济与社会研究理事会人口变迁中心主任，曾任英国人口学会会长(2015-2017)与欧洲人口学会会长(2018-2020)。Jane Falkingham是世界范围内人口议题的权威专家，多次受邀参与联合国欧洲经济委员会、联合国教科文组织、世界卫生组织、世界银行、欧盟与英国政府的会议与活动。过去20年间，她负责的学术课题涉及英国本土以及欧洲、亚洲、非洲等地，项目总经费超过2500万英镑。她发表了超过200项学术研究成果（书籍、论文与书籍章节）。Jane Falkingham对于英国本土与世界范围内的社会科学领域发展做出了长期的、重要的理论与实践贡献。2015年与2017年，她分别当选英国社会科学院与英国皇家艺术协会院士。2015年，她被授予大英帝国勋章。
Jane Falkingham is Professor of Demography & International Social Policy. She has extensive senior leadership experience having served as Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Southampton for eight years until 31st December 2021 and is currently Vice President. Alongside her senior leadership roles, Jane has maintained an active research career and is Director of the ESRC Centre for Population Change. Jane was President of the British Society for Population Studies (2015-2017) and President of the European Association for Population Studies (2018-2020). She is acknowledged as a world leading expert on the social policy implications of population ageing and regularly invited to participate in projects and meetings organised by various UN organisations, including UNECE, UNICEF, WHO, World Bank as well as the EU and UK government. Over the past twenty years, she has secured research grants of over £25 million as PI, conducting research in both the UK and internationally with funded projects in China, India, Africa and throughout Central Asia. She has published more than 200 books, journal articles and book chapters. Jane has a long history of service to the Social Science community both in the UK and internationally. Jane was elected as a Fellow of the UK Academy of Social Sciences in 2015 and the Royal Society of Arts in 2017. In October 2015 she was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for her services to Social Sciences.

This lecture presents the most recent data on population change in the UK, placing these trends in the wider global context. The lecture outlines four key demographic shifts that are resharing the world’s population as we reach the historic landmark of 8 billion citizens. The lecture then zooms down to examine key trends in the UK population over the 21st century drawing out the implications for policy. Finally the lecture introduces the research agenda of the new ESRC Connecting Generations research partnership which recently received funding of £10 million for the period 2022-2027.
